Meet Russell

In the beginning, there was nothing.

2003: Then, out of the depths of Lefa’s imagination, an idea was formed. That idea? Create an independent publication of The Melbourne International Comedy Festival news, features, reviews and opinions.

April 2006: Lo, and behold, The Pun is born. Funded with the support of various University Student Unions, our first magazines are adorned with a vivid red rooster, a rooster without a name.

….

August 2006: The Melbourne International Film Festival is fast approaching. Hark! What is that galloping over the horizon?
Why, it’s The Pundit, your free, independent festival guide.

With the support of Crumpler, The Foundation for Young Australians and RMIT Union Arts, The Pundit is distributed to over 10,000 film festival goers.

Our rooster is in need of drastic updating. A straight colour change simply won’t do it – tin&ed design to the rescue!

We unveil our mascot Russell Crow, sworn to constant valour, satire and journalism in the face of mediocrity.

Present: Ah, where to from here, we hear you ask. Only onward and up for us. We will continue to bring you unbiased, independent festival coverage with our faithful rooster by our side. In each edition, he will undergo a refurbishment, a rejuvenation and a damn good redesign. What can the future hold for our little boy Russell? Only time will tell.
