The Axis of Awesome – Infinity Rock Explosion!

The Axis of Awesome – Infinity Rock Explosion!

Everyone’s well aware that The Axis of Awesome is a rock comedy group, right? Well, they certainly manage to do what it says on the package, excelling at it along the way.

Bandmembers Jordan, Lee and Benny have great chemistry, and while their musical abilites are reasonable (it’s clear why they’re a comedy band), their finely-honed sense of theatrical timing really make up for it. While you’ll get a kick out of parodies of songs you know and love (or in the case of Kings of Leon, know and tolerate), it’s in their original work that they truly shine. I challenge you to leave the place without at least one of their songs stuck in your head for the remainder of the night.

Never let it be said that the band won’t go the extra mile for a joke – when you first step into the theatre room, you’ll be presented with a pair of 3D glasses, and this segment of the act has to be seen (and ducked!) to be believed.

If you liked the band’s ‘Four Chord‘ song on YouTube, you should definitely make the effort to see them this festival. The Axis of Awesome live up to their name: there’s some awe involved, and there isn’t a rhombus in sight. Plus there’s an extra hint of bovine flavour this year.

So. Bad. I couldn’t disagree more with this review. I thought their show was Axis of Average. The cow suit? The out-of-tune singing? Sometimes it hits the mark (like the Four Chord song) but I’ve heard it all before and while its still funny shouldn’t they work on something new?

For a first time watcher of the axis of awesome i think you must’ve been watching a different show! these guys are so friggin funny! i loved every song and the jokes in between were a lot funnier than some of the stand ups i’ve seen. but everyone is entitled to their opinion. love the four chords song!!!

Hey Natalie, If you want to see good R ‘n’ R comedy, try Dead Cat Bounce. They make A of A sound like beginners!

Thanks Merv I went and saw them last night. Although they musically sounded better than axis (like a proper rock and roll band) i didn’t find their jokes or songs as funny. But they were very good i must say. Thanks for the heads up.

    This show was awful!
From the shitty, dark, dank, piss-stained venue (which I realise is not always in the control of the artists – but still… bad), to the stilted dialogue and drawn-out jokes… these guys really need to work on their act.
I agree with Ellie – the four chords song was really really great, but it’s been sitting on YouTube for months now – time to come up with some new material.
The main guy needs to get over his obvious obsession with the Jack Black style – if you don’t want to be associated with him, stop trying to be him on stage!
Weren’t these the guys behind those awesome Howard vs Rudd rap battles that came out during the 07 election? Why not use that material in the show?
This show was painful – musical comedy is notoriously difficult, but it requires two major things: musical talent and comedic ability. The guy on keyboard as the former. That’s it.
