Justin Hamilton – Idiot Man Child

Justin Hamilton made a New Year’s resolution to not get angry with people. Instead when people annoyed or just simply bored him, he responded like an idiot man child. The result is this show, detailing the responses he gave or wished he had given.

Over the year there were many people who annoyed or bored him; loud people on trams, new home owners, commercial radio producers and night clubs just to name a few. Although constantly frustrated by these people and their boring influence, Hamilton has not let the experience taint his comedic style – on stage he is far from boring. Being part of the audience felt like being in on the joke, although he tells very few traditional “jokes”.

Hamilton flips, twists and segues between events to create a tight, laugh-out-loud hour that everyone can relate to. If the stories were a book my grandmother would tear all the pages out due to the swearing. Thankfully this is no book, it is stand-up and uproariously funny stand-up at that.

Throughout the show Hamilton often refers to an alternate universe that serves as his escape from the boring people that plague him in this world. After watching his show, it is an escape I agree with – Hamilton’s universe is a very funny place to be, and a true refuge from the mundane.
