Tim Vine – The Joke-Amotive

There is no doubt about it. Tim Vine is pun-tastic. The show is like an hour of dad jokes, or the jokes from inside Christmas bon-bons, except Vine is funny. Very funny.

Vine combines props, sight gags, simple music and bad dancing with a frenetic pace, in order to keep the audience laughing through the entire show. Vine recognises that not all of the puns are comedy gold, but admits it with a well-timed recovery. The show is like a runaway train and the audience will be railroaded into laughing out loud.

The cleverness of the wordplay and the sheer number of jokes is somewhat exhausting, for the audience and Vine alike. On occasion, his mind gets ahead of his mouth, which results in bouts of tongue-tied mumbling. He also referred to his notes more than once during the show. However, his ability to turn these moments into quick and (again) pun-tastic jokes has the audience wondering if they were in fact minor blunders, or perfectly planned gags.

This show is a rarity, and not just because it is laugh-out-loud punny. There is no profanity and no innuendo. It’s sure to please many.
