Sort of the Rings – Jason Chong and Mike Klimczak

Not read The Lord of the Rings Trilogy yet? Then let Jason Chong and Mike Klimczak do the seemingly impossible and share their interpretation of the story as they perform The Lord of the Rings Trilogy in their show Sort of the Rings in under an hour.

Never a dull moment, Jason and Mike’s dedicated and talented performances ebb and flow well, using a range of comedic techniques to recreate scenes from the movie , through use of theatre, puppetry, video, slapstick, music, audience participation and imagination, without a cast of thousands. The two performers are adaptable and likeable lads with great stage presence, giving their all to the show with energy and wit. The show almost had a theatre sports’ feel to it, which left me wondering at points how they were going to get through the epic tale in such a short time frame! The night I saw the performance, the comedians worked well with the energy from the audience. If you like audience participation, which is a feature of this show, then activities like balloon throwing Orc battles or the audience invitation to duel with an Orc balloon will appeal.

The parody peppered throughout the show also worked well and the timing was excellent considering the amount of wig changes Jason had to make during the course of the show. This show is not just for Tolkien fans, it is for everyone in the family, and those with an open mind and penchant for a bit of chaos. Sort of the Rings has wit, energy, mayhem and madness, and is a great night.
