Philip Escoffey – Six Impossible Things Before Dinner

The eternal debate about the existence and authenticity of mind-reading is age old. Is it possible? How is it done? I think these questions are what brought the audience to the Quilt room of Trades Hall to see Phillip Escoffey from the UK perform 6 Impossible Things Before Dinner.

Now, I’d already had dinner prior to seeing the show, so technically, these were to be post-dinner feats. And honestly, either way, they certainly outshone the main meal.

Philip is a showman with a difference. Sure, he’s a likeable Englishman who utters the odd profanity for emphasis and charms the audience with his accent and dry humour, but he also questions this age old quandary and asks the audience to question their own thoughts. It’s not just about whether or not he can read minds – it’s rather more about what’s inside you to make you a believer or non-believer.

His six impossible things certainly made me question my own thoughts on the unexplained, and challenged the pre-conceptions I’d entered the room with. I was thoroughly transfixed and entertained the entire show, and loved watching the reactions of the other audience members. We all were on a journey with Phillip, and I didn’t want it to end.

The final ‘impossible thing’ is the clincher; be you a cynic or a believer, you’ll experience a baffling and bloody amazing show. I’ve been trying to explain it to people all day – just go see it for yourselves!
