John Moloney – One Hour of Jokes

A multi-talented Englishman, John Moloney tells his audience jokes and makes you laugh without any pretence, in a relaxed and entertaining hour of comedy.

Over the hour that Moloney is on stage, he openly and entertainingly shares gags about languages, relationships and life, as if in conversation with a few friends sharing a drink at the pub.

A range of interesting and topical material is successfully mused over, with brilliant delivery of the punch line every time. The audience is entertained and informed with topics covering everything from the subtlety of the Italian language, The Royal Family, society’s preoccupation with sponsoring puppies, and Moloney’s other life as a teacher.

The show was a little too crass for me in some parts with reference to one or two jokes, but this was far outweighed by the great material covered and his well crafted delivery. A stand out aspect is his ability to play the piano accordion beautifully (although he confesses himself this didn’t work when he played to Kate Moss), but it certainly did with the crowd here. His clever linguistic abilities and adventures are easy to identify with and really funny.

A great show and a genuine and original performance that will make you laugh and forget your woes for an hour. If traditional stand up, low-key comedy is your thing, do check him out.

Let me guess – he looks like K.D. Lang, Queen, Queen Mother – he should call his show “Cranky Englishman serves up much the same slop as last year.”

I am not going again this year, I’ve been ripped off twice before, even if he has turned over more than 10% of the material, he doesn’t deserve my money again for a while.
