Editor’s Diary April 3

Friday night madness at the Melbourne Town Hall.  There are people everywhere, which is awesome to see considering the massive thunderstorms outside earlier.  Just seen my first show for the night, Mamafied, in the Council Chambers.  They should really stop using that space.  Awesome as it is, what with the ornate chairs, gorgeous walls and impressive size, it does performers no justice.  This is the third or fourth show I’ve seen in there when there is a mid-sized audience attending which is completely dwarfed by the space, and as such lacks atmosphere.

Meanwhile, on exiting the show, I was pretty impressed to see the giant line for Sammy J’s show… looks like being on the gala really does help your numbers!  Second excitement, stopping off at the ‘cyber centre’ in the main foyer of Melbourne Town Hall to write this post I was chuffed to find Safari already open to… you guessed it… The Pun.  Awesome.  Glad to see people are using the site at home and while they’re out on the comedy prowl.

Second show for the night is Jim Jeffries, which will be my first international of the festival.  No idea what to expect, which is always nice for a Friday night.  And now, as I wrap up to head off to the show, Mike Wilmot is in the foyer encouraging a little girl (his daughter?) to point him out on the wall of posters…  you never know who you’ll run into out here.
